Fifty firefighters are dealing with a fire at Croydon Police Station after an explosion in the basement this morning.

London Ambulance were called to Park Lane just before 11.30 this morning. Seven people, including a number of builders, have been injured. Five of them have been taken to hospital.

Of those injured, one was initially believed to be in a serious condition, and another was believed to be in stable. Two are believed to have suffered from smoke inhalation.

It's understood there has been building work taking place. The Health and Safety Executive is now investigating.

Croydon Police Station has been evacuated, though the Borough remains fully operational and there has not been any disruption to service.

Scotland Yard has told Heart that the incident isn't terrorist-related.
