Man Killed in Clarkenwell Shooting

A man shot in Cherkenwell yesterday had been out celebrating his 22nd birthday

Detectives investigating the shooting are looking into whether Aaron McKoy was involved in a fight just before he was killed.

Police were called at approximately 04:10hrs on Sunday, 1 January, to reports of a shooting in Portpool Lane EC1.

He'd been in a bar on Hatton Wall, where it's thought an altercation took place.

It is believed that the suspect fled in the direction of Leather Lane.

A man questioned on suspicion of murder has been released without charge.

DCI John Crossley of Trident said: "The venue was very busy going into the early hours of New Year's Day and we are extremely keen to talk to anyone who was in attendance.

"We believe the victim was involved in an incident in the venue and that this may have been the prompt for his killing.

"If you were there and noticed a dispute taking place I would urge you to get in touch as soon as possible, to enable us to bring those responsible to justice."
