For the last 3 years we have seen it slowly taking shape over London's skyline, today the Shard is officially opened.

It's Europe's tallest building, and is 310 metres high, that's about twice as high as the Gherkin, and is the equivalent of 95 floors.

Inside it's got offices, apartments, a hotel, restaurants and a viewing gallery.

Interestingly, the Eiffel Tower stands at 320 metres high, but officially is not a building.

Tickets for the public viewing gallery, which opens next February, go on sale at 9am on Friday July 6th. On a clear day you will be able to see for 40 miles from the platform on Floor 72.

Tonight there will be a big laser show to officially welcome the Shard to the London skyline.
