A petition calling for spikes to stop homeless people sleeping outside flats to be removed -has reached 14,000 signatures.

Mayor Boris Johnson has added his voice to calls for the spikes to be removed - calling them 'ugly and stupid', even though the petition is partly addressed to him.

Politicians have also joined the outcry  - Housing Minister Kris Hopkins said their installation was "deplorable", while Homeless Link, which represents homelessness charities, also condemned the spikes.

Almost 14,000 signatures in total are calling for the removal of them outside the private flats on Southwark Bridge Road, where one-bedroom flats are currently being offered for £500,000.

Some of the residents there say the spikes are treating people 'like animals'.

Resident Emi Yakehara says the people managing the building should be ashamed - and is calling on others who live there to file a petition against the spikes.
