Unemployment Figures Are Out

The number of unemployed people in London has reached 383,000, an increase of 1,000 in the quarter to February.

Nationally the jobless total has dropped by almost 17,000 to 2.48 million.

However the number of people claiming job seekers allowance is up and has reached a near 15 year high.

Youth unemployment is also up, with an increase of 18-24 year olds out of work of 12,000 to 963,000.

The number of unemployed 16 and 17 year olds is at the highest since records began in 1992, with 218,000 out of work.
