Woman Charged Over Acid Attack

A 21-year-old woman has been charged with an acid attack on a shop worker.

Naomi Oni, 21, claims to have suffered burns and lost her hair and eyelashes after the chemical was thrown at her in Lodge Avenue, Dagenham, east London, at around 12.40am on December 30.

Mary Konye, 21, of Throckmorton Road, Canning Town, east London, has been charged with throwing or casting a corrosive fluid with intent to burn, maim, disfigure, disable or do grievous bodily harm.

CPS London Senior Crown Prosecutor Damaris Lakin today said:

"I concluded that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that it is in the public interest to charge Ms Konye with throwing or casting a corrosive fluid with intent to burn, maim, disfigure, disable or do grievous bodily harm."
