Eating disorders in Milton Keynes

It’s Eating Disorder Awareness week (22nd Feb – 26th Feb).

In the last year 48 women from Milton Keynes have been treated for eating disorders by the Bucks Community Eating Disorders Team.  The disorders include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and compulsive overeating.

But NHS Milton Keynes has told us it's impossible to find out the exact number of people who are suffering, as many people don't come forward for help.

Anyone of any age can be affected by an eating disorder, and children as young as 9 are currently being treated in Milton Keynes. We'll be looking at how children can be affected in more detail later this week.

Emma Bacon suffered from anorexia in her early 20’s. She then went on to set up a community organisation in Milton Keynes called BalancED MK, which offers one-to-one counselling and self-support groups.

Bethany Hardie is the project manager of the organisation.
