7 vehicle crash closes M1

2 men have been taken to hospital after a crash on the M1 early this morning (Fri).

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue service were called to the crash, involving 5 lorries and 2 vans on the northbound carriageway between Newport Pagnell Services and Junction 15, at 4:37am.

The motorway was closed whilst emergency services and recovery teams were on the scene. Queues stretched back to Junction 12 in Bedfordshire.

Northamptonshire Police say, “It appears a white Volvo lorry stopped at the hard shoulder when it was hit by a white Mercedes lorry. A white Volvo van then pulled over causing a White DAF lorry to slow down which resulted in a collision with a red Volvo lorry. A green Volvo lorry then collided with a red Volvo causing a puncture in a seventh vehicle, a Mercedes lorry.”

4 fire engines were sent to the scene of the crash and teams used cutting equipment to free those trapped.

The 31 year old male driver of the white DAF lorry and a 28 year old man from Derby who was driving the white Mercedes lorry have both been taken to hospital with their injuries.
