Police are exhuming the remains of a body found in a river more than 25 years ago.

The body was found in the River Great Ouse at Olney near Milton Keynes. It was never identified but was buried in 1986 at Fenny Stratford cemetery.

Thames Valley Police now believe the body could be that of a missing person.

The remains will be taken to the hospital where the Home Office Pathologist will try to find DNA that will hopefully identify the body

DS Craig Kirby says this is not something they do very often:

"It's quite rare, its certainly very rare at Thames Valley Police this is the first that we know of certainly since the 1980's so it is unusual. We just want to reassure the community that it is part of a missing persons enquiry"
