An unannounced inspection of the contact, referral and assessment arrangements within children’s services at Milton Keynes Council has found no areas for concern.

Ofsted inspectors visited the council for two days in February without warning to assess the effectiveness of the service on minimising child abuse and neglect.

The inspectors found strengths in the service, highlighting the support provided to social workers, and the quality of the out of hours facility. Many other areas met the statutory standards required, including the clarity of assessments, staff development, response to child protection concerns and inclusion of parents’ views in assessments.

Councillor Rosemary Drewett, Lead Member for Children, said:

“This is a very positive endorsement of our contact, referral and assessment service for children. I congratulate all team members for the part they play in ensuring that the needs of vulnerable children are met effectively.

“As always, there are some areas for development and we have developed an action plan to address these.”
