Joseph Potter stood in the dock yesterday, accused of perverting the course of justice.

The 41-year-old was arrested on Saturday as detectives searched for the missing 19-year-old.

The mum-of-one's body was discovered in a shallow grave in woodland off Travellers Lane, Hatfield, Herts., on Sunday - although a formal identification is still to take place. She was last seen at the home she shared with Jack Walls in Stevenage, Herts., on Wednesday last week.

Silver haired Potter, of Sycamore Avenue, Bletchley, Bucks., who did not enter a plea, remained stony-faced during the five minute hearing at Hatfield Magistrates' Court as the charge was read out by the court clerk.

Wearing a black coat, black and purple hooped polo shirt, and blue jeans he was led away by dock staff after being remanded in custody.

Magistrate Robert Morgan-Jones set a preliminary hearing date of November 19 at Cambridge Crown Court.

Jack Walls, aged 22 years, has today been charged with her murder.

He handed himself in to police on Sunday morning and Amelia's body was found just hours later.
