MP wants city status

MP Mark Lancaster thinks it’s about time Milton Keynes got city status.

The MP for North East MK has tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament to try and get other MPs support. It’s similar to getting signatures to a petition.

Earlier this month Lord Mandelson announced that to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee in 2012 a competition will be launched to give somewhere city status.

Milton Keynes applied for city status to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2007. However the application was refused.

MP Mark Lancaster told heart “We are a tremendously forward looking city, we’re very successful, we’ve got great business and of course now we’ve just now received backing to be one of the host cities for the 2018 World Cup should England get it. “

“I think the time has come when we should be receiving city status, which is why I’m very keen to push it forward.”
