Cuddly Clyde Is Games Best-Seller

Sales of cuddly Clyde Glasgow 2014 mascots have outstripped T-shirts and badges to become the Games's most popular item of merchandise.

Some 46,000 Clydes measuring 15cm and 25cm have been sold since the beginning of July, over a third more sales than the next most popular item - men's T-shirts - which have sold around 34,000.

Clyde, a smiling thistle wearing a Glasgow 2014 T-shirt and a kilt, has outsold women's T-shirts (22,000) and children's T-shirts (20,000) by more than two to one.

In addition, Glasgow 2014 merchandise outlets have sold 30,000 pin badges, 17,000 key rings and the same number of caps, 12,000 gel bracelets and the same number of magnets, and 10,000 men's polo shirts.

Holidaymakers will also be taking a little bit of Glasgow 2014 around the world with them with more than 2,000 beach towels being sold.

Glasgow 2014 has 54 shops open across Glasgow and in Games venues and created approximately 500 temporary jobs.

Gerry Carey, senior manager, licensing and merchandising at Glasgow 2014, said: "All of our ranges are selling very well across the stores, from our Team Scotland merchandise through to our Scottish-specific items. It has been brilliant to see crowds of supporters sporting the Glasgow 2014 brand."
