The Bill bows out

The Bill bows out tonight.

After 26 years, the final episode of the long-running police drama is being screened and the sun will set on Sun Hill.

It began in 1984 - with just 12 hour-long episodes but by 1988 the programme was switched to three half-hour shows a week.

There have been 2,400 episodes, featuring then unknown actors such as Robert Carlyle and Martine McCutcheon.

Over the years Sun Hill station has been blown up 3 times but with audiences falling steadily in recent years, The Bill is finally being axed.

The last ever storyline is about a teenage girl involved in the murder of a 14-year-old suspected gang member.
