They have been married for almost two years and Portia De Rossi has now filed court papers in Los Angeles to officially take her wife Ellen 's surname and become Portia DeGeneres .
The new surname will be official after the court hearing takes place on September the 23d.
De Rossi was born Amanda Lee Rogers but changed her name aged 15 to Portia De Rossi after her love of Shakespeare and Italy. She felt the name De Rossi was classier and more sophisticated than Rogers.
TV host Ellen DeGeneres and actress De Rossi married on August 16th 2008.
