Don't forget about Mum!
New research shows more than a quarter of mums are thanked by their children less than once a month.
Rather than being showered with gifts this Mother’s Day, almost half of mums (48%) would far prefer a hug and over a third (34%) would like a simple thank you.
The research found that whilst half of mums (49%) are grateful to have a special day dedicated to them, 37% can take or leave Mother's Day.
More than two thirds (66%) agree they would far rather be appreciated every day than on one specific day of the year. In fact almost a fifth of the nation’s mums (18%) are only thanked once a fortnight and 14% are hardly ever thanked.
Becoming a mum has made many women more appreciative of what their mum did for them. Almost two thirds of mums (61%) say they wish they had shown more gratitude to towards their mums when they were growing up and over a quarter (29%) of mums with young children say they thank their own mothers at least once a week.
After a hug and a thank you, next on the list of what mums would like to be thanked with is an offer of help with the housework (9%), followed by just 3% who would like some flowers, 3% who would like a cup of tea or 2% a small gift.
