Lost in London

Even Londoners are confused about which Tube stop to get off at to visit the nation’s most famous landmarks.

In a test, 2,628 regular commuters on London’s Underground were asked which is the nearest Tube stop in relation to well-known famous places.

In spite of the obvious name connection, half of all Londoners don’t know that Tower Hill is the nearest station to the Tower of London! Worryingly nearly a quarter (23%) think that Embankment, (over 2.5 miles away and six stops away on the District or Circle Line), is closest.

Finding Buckingham Palace doesn’t fare much better, with nearly 15% of commuters thinking that High Street Kensington is closest to Buckingham Palace compared to the nearer stations of Green Park (41%), Hyde Park Corner (29%), Victoria (12%) and St James Park (12%).

Meanwhile, people fared slightly better at knowing that the nearest Tube station to Madam Tussauds is Baker Street (56%). 14% thought Bond Street is the nearest and 11% thought it was Piccadilly Circus.
