A man who escaped last weekend from a secure hospital before going on the run is due to appear in court today.

Luke Sparks, an unemployed man of Brue Close in Weston-super-Mare, has been charged with escaping from lawful custody, assault and criminal damage.

Sparks got out of the hospital at Palgrave in Suffolk near Diss on Sunday, but was eventually arrested by police near Bristol.

Rebecca Martin, a 22-year-old Social Care Assistant of Greys Manor, Banham has been charged with assisting prisoners to escape in relation to the same incident.

The pair have been remanded in custody at the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre and are due to appear at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court today.
