Great Yarmouth: Five Plead Not Guilty To Murder

Five people have been charged with murder after a man died of head injuries following a disturbance outside a pub in Great Yarmouth.

Police were called at about 1.55am on Saturday 5 May 2012 to a disturbance outside the Bricklayers Arms pub on Nelson Road Central, Great Yarmouth. Officers arrived on scene to find 40-year-old Ian Church with serious head injuries. He was taken to the James Paget Hospital where he sadly died several days later.

Today 24-year-old Todd Esherwood, of Saxon Road, Great Yarmouth, 29-year-old Tony Smith, of Sidney Close, Great Yarmouth, 30-year-old Stuart Layden of South Quay, Great Yarmouth, 33-year-old Kelly Taylor (female), of Harris Road, Sheerness, Kent, and Roy Smith, aged 31 and of Ranelagh Road, Sheerness, Kent, all appeared before Norwich Crown Court. There they were all charged with murder and all five pleaded not guilty.

Esherwood, Smith, Smith and Layden were remanded in custody and Taylor was released on court bail. All five will next appear at crown court on Friday 7 September 2012.
