Ipswich: Man Charged After Reported Rape

After a woman reported being raped in Ipswich, a 40-year-old man has been charged with two counts of rape.

A woman told police that she was raped in an alleyway off a car park off Lower Brook Street at around 2.35am on Easter Sunday (20th April).

Ali Shaboot of Ipswich was arrested at an address in Ipswich yesterday, Thursday 1 May on suspicion of rape and taken to the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

He has subsequently been charged with two counts of rape and is being remanded in custody ahead of his court appearance which is due tomorrow, Saturday 3 May at Ipswich Magistrates Court tomorrow.

With the bank holiday weekend coming up police would like to take this opportunity to remind people to be careful and stick together when on a night out. 

Anyone going out over the weekend should following these simple steps:

  • Stick together and look out for each other.

  •  Arrange your journey to and from home. 

  • Never accept a drink from anyone you do not completely trust. 

  • Consider very carefully whether you should leave the pub, club or party with someone you have just met. 

  • Make sure that someone knows where you are going and what time you will be home.
