Norfolk: Summer Drink Drive Campaign

As England enjoys wins on the pitch Think! Norfolk are welcoming the fact that off the pitch road users in the county are also succeeding.

Figures for the first two weeks of the Think! Norfolk summer drink drive campaign show only 2% of the people who were stopped and breath tested gave a positive result (991 tests and 22 positives).

The month-long "Dont be a Loser" campaign began on 1 June 2012 with officers conducting breath tests countywide. They want to reinforce the message to drivers that even one drink can have tragic consequences.

The worst offending group was those aged over the age of 25 with 77% of those who failed a breath test being above that age (22 positives -  5 under 25 and 17 over 25).

Iain Temperton, Chair of Think! Norfolk's road safety publicity group added: "Taking a risk on losing so much by drink driving is not worth it.  Motorists need to remember that there are always alternative ways to get to your destination."

Inspector David Ball, Road Policing, praised the mid-point figures saying: "I am glad to see that Norfolk's road users are heeding our advice and not putting their lives and the lives of others in danger.  However, a small minority are still taking a grave risk and I want to remind them that drink driving is a very serious issue which can have severe consequences."
