Norwich: ATM Theft CCTV Image

Officers are re-appealing for assistance for help in tracing a man they would like to speak to in connection with two incidents of theft in Norwich

The first incident took place at around 10.10am on Saturday 29 September 2012 outside the Halifax in St Stephens Street.

At this time an elderly woman went to use a cash machine when she was distracted by a man waving a piece of paper who informed her the machine was broken. The male appears to have left with the victim's card.

A short time later a similar man approached a woman at a cash machine inside Barclays Bank in Red Lion Street. He again distracted the victim before taking her bank card. A significant amount of cash was later withdrawn from the account.

Police are urging the public to be vigilant when making banking transactions following the two incidents.

Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area of either bank during the times stated and may have seen the man, or who may recognise the man in the image.

People are reminded to be aware of their surroundings when using cash machines. Do not let yourself become distracted whilst using your card, shield your PIN and keep your bag and wallet secure. Ensure you take your card and money when you leave the machine, and if you feel unsafe or the machine appears to have been tampered with, do not use it. Report any suspicious persons or devices to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Andrew Vinsen at Norfolk Constabulary on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
