Norwich: Man Jailed For Sex Offences Against Children
A man from Norwich has been jailed for abusing children from Swaffham and Norwich that he'd groomed over Facebook.
20-year-old Reuben Poll, from Jewson Road in Norwich, used an alias of Jordan Green to get closer to young children he knew through acquaintances.
He asked victims to help him decorate his house, taking them in his car without their parent's knowledge, approached one on Facebook and built up a relationship through direct messages and in another case broke his position of trust to touch a child inappropriately.
All the boys were aged between 11 and 16 and all claimed that Poll was well aware of their true age.
Poll pleaded guilty to two charges of child abduction, a sexual assault and meeting a child following sexual grooming.
He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
Detective Constable Carly Jermy, Norwich CID, welcomed the sentencing saying: "Poll took advantage of his young victims trust and abused them despite knowing their ages.
"He used any situation for his own benefit and left his victims traumatised by the events that took place. In many cases the victim's parents were unaware of how their children were being approached.
"This sentencing will serve as a warning to other potential sex offenders that they will be brought to justice and we will support victims in every way possible."
DC Jermy urged parents not to be afraid of checking with their children around their use of social media.
She added: "Many parents like to show they can appreciate their children's boundaries. However, they must become more aware of the dangers in the online world.
"Young people can believe they are talking to someone of their own age when in fact they are often chatting to someone much older."
There has been a 26% rise in the number of children and young people hospitalised after self-harming in the East of England.
More than 100 people have lost their lives through suicide in prisons in England and Wales so far this year, an all-time record.
