A man who used his position as a Spiritual Healer to sexually assault a woman who came to him for treatment has been jailed.

A 77-year-old William Workman, of Alford Grove in Norwich, appeared at Norwich Crown Court yesterday, Tuesday 30 April 2013, after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault.

The incidents took place at Workman's home in July 2011 where he had set up a private practice offering spiritual healing. The woman had visited Workman for treatment; during each session however he sexually assaulted her by touching and alleged such techniques were part of the therapy. It was reported to police a year later.

Investigating officer, DC Sophie Getley said: "This man has taken advantage of a client who has come to him for professional treatment in good faith. However, Workman took advantage and exploited her and she has been left distressed by what happened.

"Workman had been a member of the National Spiritualist Union but had let his registration lapse in September 2011, although he continued to treat others without official accreditation. Anyone providing such healing services should be registered with an official body and their credentials can be checked."
