Suffolk: MET Police Officer Commutes

10 April 2012, 05:00

A MET police officer is telling Heart why she commutes from North Suffolk to London to do her job.

Andrea Grey lives in North Suffolk but rides a motorbike to get to work in London which can take her two hours to get there.

She says she saves thousands of pounds a year by doing it because the cost of rent in London is so high.

It comes as figures released from the housing charity Shelter, show renting a two bedroom home in London is now unaffordable for many families earning less than £52,000.

With the typical London household income less than £35,000, the charity is warning that growing numbers of families are at crisis point, paying up to half of their income in rent each month as they struggle to continue living and working in the capital.
