Home Office figures show the amount of recorded crime in Northamptonshire dropped overall by 8 percent.

There were 56,538 victims of crime in the county between December 2008 and December 2009.  It's the first time the recorded crime figures have been presented as a rolling twelve month period, instead of being quarterly.

The biggest drop in the county was in car crime where the statistics show a decrease of 24 percent.  Sexual offences dropped by 13 percent and the amount of house burglary fell by four percent.

There has, however, been an increase in violent crime and drug offences.
