Fears domestic abuse will rise during World Cup

Northamptonshire charities fear the tournament could lead to an increase in cases.

Calls to helplines in the county increased by almost a third when the last World Cup was on, and there's fears the same will happen this year.

NADA - Northamptonshire Against Domestic Abuse - have launched a campaign to try and raise awareness and will be running events across the county on match days.

Peggy Shilson's chair of NADA, she said:

"It just seems to follow through with the matches, obviously the hype and everyone getting excited and then if they fail, they lose, there's repercussions.

There is someone out there that can help and that's our priority to get that message out there. England may lose but they don't have to be a loser."

England's first match is on 12th June against the USA.
