M1 Re-Opens After Two Lorry Collision

Emergency services were called at 11.40 this morning after two lorries had collided.

Northants Fire and Rescue have told Heart they had 4 appliances at the scene between junctions 16 and 17, just past the Watford Gap services.

Paramedics from the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance service help free the driver of one of the lorries who was trapped in his cab following the incident.

The victim was taken to hospital by road with the East Midlands Ambulance service, and is reported to be in a stable condition - with no other injuries being reported.

A spokesman for Northants Police says one of the lorries had struck the central reservation - hitting another lorry and consequently blocked the northbound carriageway.

** UPDATE AT 1700hrs ** Two lanes northbound have reopened j16-17 (from the A5) with only 5 minute delays approaching Northampton.

Southbound traffic is moving much easier.

Traffic remains very congested through Towcester on the A5 with earlier diverting traffic - with 45 minute delays reported.

The A5 crossroads at Weedon also remains very busy.
