In March 2011, Smokey the Cat entered the Guinness Book of World Records for having the loudest purr.

Smokey, with the help of her owner Ruth Adams, has now released her first book called Smokey The Very Loud Purring Cat.

Ruth says everyone will enjoy the book, adults, children and especially cat lovers. It is written from Smokey’s point of view and tells the story of how a cat, that has been re-homed eight times, rose to fame.

Also inside the book is a review from Larry the cat at number 10 Downing Street, comments from the RSPCA and the Chief Editor of the Guinness Book of World Records. There is a chapter explaining how sound is measured to help children understand why Smokey's purr is the loudest in the world.

Smokey and his fan group will be officially launching the book at the I Love Pets Show in Peterborough on the 29th and 30th October. He will then be off doing book signings, dates include:

Northampton Waterstone's store- 12th November
Milton Keynes Waterstone's Store- 3rd December
Kettering Waterstone's store- 10th December

Ruth has had a stamp made up of Smokey's exact paw print so she can 'pautograph' copies of her book.

Ruth originally began showcasing Smokey’s loud purr in February and was to raise awareness about the importance of getting cats spayed and neutered. Much to Ruth’s surprise, Smokey soon became internationally known and has now been on radio and television across the world. Ruth says that Smokey loves all the attention: “She loves the attention she just adores being fussed and stroked and is not fazed by all the camera crews… she enjoys it because I feed her little bits of ham”
