Police are appealing for witnesses after a 59-year-old man suffered a broken collar bone in a Northampton supermarket car park.

The man had parked in the Aldi car park between 8.30pm and 8.50pm, on Sunday 12 August.

When he returned men who had broken into his van were still there.

He asked for a hammer they had taken from his van back. The hammer was returned and the victim packed his belongings into the vehicle.

One of them then walked behind him, took the hammer and assaulted the victim with it.

They ran off towards Spencer Bridge Road and one got into a blue Mondeo and drove off towards The Mounts.

Both offenders were white men, both with tans, and both spoke a foreign language. They were around 6 feet tall and of muscular build with short black hair. One was wearing jeans and a yellow tee-shirt.

The victim was taken to hospital.
