Warning after spate of cash card thefts

Police are appealing for witness or information following two thefts that happened the town centre yesterday morning (March 2nd).

The first theft was outside the HSBC bank in Abingdon Street at around 8.30am, the second happened outside Barclays Bank in the market square shortly after. On both occasions the victims were using the cash machine and were distracted by two men who then took their cards.

Neither victim was hurt during the thefts but the cards were used to withdraw money from their accounts shortly afterwards.

The two men police are seeking in connection with the thefts are described as Asian, aged 25-30 and around 5’9” tall.

We want to remind the public to be vigilant when using cash machines and be aware of those around them.
