Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in St Giles’ churchyard in Northampton.

The incident happened between 9.30pm and 10pm on Monday, 9 December.

A 23-year-old woman was walking through the churchyard when she was stopped by two men who demanded she hand over her purse and phone. When the victim told them she didn’t have such items they then searched her and her bag. On realising she had nothing to steal the offenders then punched and kicked the victim whilst she was on the floor. The victim was then able to run away and call the police.

One of the offenders is described as a mixed race man, aged 25-30, 5ft 10in, with a skinny build. He was wearing a dark hooded top, white Nike trainers, black running gloves, a dark scarf covering his face and a dark baseball cap with a red rim and round logo on the peak.

Witnesses to this incident, or anyone with information, should call Northamptonshire Police on 101 - alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
