The best spots around the North East to find your Christmas decorations, advent calendars and get your season of festivities in full swing.
So, it's the first week of December and that means it's time to get in to the Christmas spirit! We've pulled together a list of the best places in the North East to kick off your festive season
It doesn't matter if it's real or fake, it's a Christmas staple and a MUST to kick off the festive period. However, we really are spoiled for choice in the North East when it comes to the "real thing", if you live near Gosforth, Wyevale Garden Centre has some of the best trees around and are even offering up a free hot chocolate if you pop along to at the weekends to make your picking for the season! Clays Garden Centre in Sunderland also boasts a whole mix of tree's of every shape and size as well as a whole array of decorations! So gather the family, get the tinsel and baubles ready and let's kick off the festive season in style.
This year it's Christmas markets galore and we're spoiled for choice across the North East. If Middlesbrough's Centre Square is a little closer to home it has an amazing offering with this years Magical Middlesbrough, hosting a Victorian style fairground, Christmas market stalls, Santa's Grotto and the BIG SING on 17th December.
If you are a foodie by any stretch of the imagination, head on down to Grey's Monument where you can try Bratwurst sausage,French crepes, Spanish paella, wonderful cakes and pastries and the best hot chocolates. You can check out a tour of the market right here before dashing out.
Fenwick's Christmas Window
Every year, thousands in the North East gather to celebrate the unveiling of the Fenwick's Christmas window! Last year we were swept up in Christmas spirit with the Beatrix Potter theme, however this year showcases the spectacular Paddington Bear. Grab the family, head along and watch this 'Love from Paddington' display light up Northumberland Street - a festive day out not to be missed.

The Darlington Hippodrome also has a family favourite playing this festive season... Snow White! Join Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, for a night full of laugh-out-loud comedy, sensational song & dance and dazzling special effects!
Get your skates on and glide around the magical ice at Keel Square, as Sunderland's faveourite open air ice rink has returned! The perfect festive family day out awaits, and remember if the weather isn't great for a skate outside Billingham Ice Rink also has an amazing rink all year round!
