6 Injured After Car Hits Pedestrians In Newcastle

Police say two children are in intensive care after a car hit six people in a crowd in Newcastle.

 

Officers were called to Westgate Sport Centre at 9:14am where a large group had been celebrating Eid. 

A third child has also been left with serious injuries which are not thought to be life threatening. One adult is being treated on a high dependency unit. Another two adults have serious injuries.

A 42 year-old woman, who had been celebrating Eid with her family, has been arrested in connection with the crash.

Police say there is no information to suggest the crash was terror-related.

Extra officers are patrolling in communities to provide reassurance.

Six people have been injured after a car crashed into pedestrians in Newcastle. 

It happened outside Westgate Sports Centre at around 9:15 this morning. Police say it's not being treated as terrorism.

The North East Ambulance Service says the injured people include three children. 

A 42-year-old woman has been arrested.

Northumbria Police released this statement:

On Sunday June 25, at approx 9.14am Northumbria Police received reports that a vehicle had collided with pedestrians outside of Westgate Sports Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Police enquiries are on-going to establish exactly what happened but, at this time, it is not believed to be a terror incident.

Emergencies services are currently at the scene and six casualties have been confirmed.

Police have arrested a 42 -year-old woman who is currently in police custody.
