Newcastle City Council has approved plans for a controversial new table dancing club to open opposite Central Station.

The proposals, for the premises on Grainger Street, had brought opposition from Council Leader Nick Forbes.

More than 30 letters of objection were also received by the council.

The bar used to be called The Den but its owners say it hasn't decided on a new name for it.

They do say it won't be a typical lap dance bar and it will create 100 new jobs.
