County Durham Man Survives Nepal Earthquake
A County Durham man, who was climbing Mount Everest for charity when a deadly earthquake struck, says he's lucky to be here.
Nick Talbot, who has Cystic Fibrosis, was climing the mountain to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, when the huge earthquake hit Nepal.
He was injured as a result of the quake and tweeted to say he's 'battered, bruised, but ok.'
He was airlifted out of Base Camp because of the injuries he picked up and is now on his way back to the UK.
The charity's Chief Executive Ed Owen released this statement:
"I have today been in touch with Nick's father, Keith, who has spoken to Nick by phone. Nick described his dramatic escape from the avalanche on Everest in which he sustained cracked ribs and hypothermia.
As a result of his injuries, Nick was airlifted out of Base Camp this morning and is now in Kathmandu from where he is planning to return to the UK.
Nick is obviously devastated by the loss of one of his colleagues, and at the widespread loss of life that has occurred. He is also aware of the support all of his friends and well-wishers at this difficult time."
