Updated 13.01.15

Searches by armed police at a house in County Durham have now been stood down.

Supt Andy Huddleston, of Durham Constabulary, said: "We had cause for concern following a domestic incident which resulted in us deploying armed officers to search a property on Finchale Avenue, Brasside, County Durham.

This was a protracted incident due to the difficult nature of the property.

As a result of a search, no one was found at the address. Armed officers have now been stood down. However, officers will remain at the scene to carry out further searches at the premises.

We would like to thank local residents in the area for their patience and understanding during this operation

The property on Finchale Avenue in Brasside was taped off shortly before 10.30 this morning.

No one else is believed to be in the house.

Durham Police Superintendent Andy Huddleston, said:
"This is very much an ongoing police operation with our main priority to draw this incident to a safe conclusion."

"We would ask for patience from those residents living in or around the Finchale Avenue area whilst the cordon remains in place and police activity is underway."
