Man Critical After Taking Heroin In Sunderland
Police in Sunderland are warning about the dangers of taking illegal drugs after five people were taken to hospital.
Police and the Ambulance Service were called to the Norfolk Hotel guest house in Norfolk Street, Sunderland at 1.50pm on Saturday, May 2nd, after a 43-year-old man was found unconscious.
He was taken to the Sunderland Royal Hospital and it is believed he had taken some Heroin which was stronger than usual. His condition is critical and described as life threatening.
There were four other people at the premises who are also believed to have taken these drugs. They were all conscious but feeling unwell. They were also taken by ambulance to SRH and were released following treatment.
Chief Inspector Neil Robson, of Northumbria Police, said:
"We're carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what has happened and to locate the source of this batch of Heroin. However, we want to remind and warn people of the dangers of taking illegal drugs, or indeed any drugs that have not been prescribed to them.
If anyone has taken an illegal substance and becomes unwell they should seek medical advice immediately.
Those with any information about this drug, including its whereabouts and its source, should contact us as soon as possible."
Following enquiries four people have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in supplying controlled drugs.
Three men aged 38, 41 and 42 and a 37-year-old woman remain in custody helping police with their enquiries.
