Private James Deepcut Death Inquest Opens

A second inquest for one of four soldiers who died from gunshot wounds at Deepcut Barracks opens later.

Private Cheryl James, 18, was found with a single gun-shot wound in 1995, but more than twenty years on her family say it's still not known why she came to her death.

She was one of four soldiers to die there in similar circumstances over a seven year period, up to 2002.

Six years after her death, Private Geoff Gray, who was 17 and from Seaham, was found with two gun-shot wounds to his head while on guard duty.

Private Sean Benton and Private James Collinson were the others to die.

An earlier inquest ruled an open verdict for three of the soldiers, including for the deaths of Private James and Gray.

Their families disputed that and have campaigned ever since, insisting their loved ones didn't kill themselves.

Private Gray's parents, Geoff Snr and Diane, are still waiting for a second hearing for their son.

Today's inquest for Private James opens at 2pm in Woking.
