Yellow Warning Of Strong Winds In The North East

1 June 2015, 06:00

The Met Office have issued a yellow warning of strong winds across the North East from 4pm this afternoon.

It's in force til 6pm on Tuesday (2nd June).

They say we can expect gusts of up to 50 mph.

The warning goes on to say
'Given the unseasonable nature of the winds, the public should be aware of the potential for disruption to transport and outdoor activities. Damage to some trees seems likely, given that they are in full leaf.'

The strong winds have come over here because of a powerful jet stream stretching across the Atlantic into the UK.

The warning covers the following areas of our region:
Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside, Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland
