Get To Know Ben Weston
From favourite foods to embarrassing moments, Heart's Ben Weston reveals all...
Who was your first celebrity crush?
I think it was Makepeace from the 80s cheesy cop show 'Dempsey and Makepeace', played by Glynis Barber. She's nearly 60 now but she's still as appealing as she was in 1985!
Who’s your most recent celebrity crush?
Probably Katy Perry. I think it's the big lollipop that does it.
What song gets you on the dance floor?
Any old school disco - Chaka Khan, Earth Wind and Fire, that sort of thing. I'm a sucker for anything funky.
What song reminds you of the most treasured moments in your life?
My wedding song was 'Nobody Does It Better' by Carly Simon, from the Bond film so that tends to make me a bit teary.
What makes you feel good more than anything else?
Having a bit of cash in my wallet. It doesn't matter if it's only a fiver, but knowing it's there makes me feel good. I once drew out £3000 in cash to buy my second car and I felt like a rapper with that kind of 'folding' in my pocket!
What’s your most proud radio moment in your career?
I've had quite a few that I'm proud of, but I think my first job many years ago was the one that made me the proudest as it was a 'hey look, I CAN make a living out this' moment.
And the most embarrassing?
I once locked myself out of the studio when I went to answer the call of nature. Thankfully in those days, security was a little more lapse than it is now and I was able to climb through the window. I was a tad thinner then, too.
Has anybody told you you look like a celebrity? Who?
Yeh, some people say I look at bit like Adrian Chiles, which is er, nice.
Lasagne. Made by my wife. It's the best I've tasted anywhere in the world, and believe me I've tried a few!
Difficult one this. Probably one of the Bond films but in light of not being able to choose I'll switch my allegiance to Jason Bourne and say 'The Bourne Ultimatum.'
Durham, where my wife and I live. It's just a wonderfully historic and atmospheric place to wander round. We often just go for a wander around the riverbanks and a gaze at the cathedral. I never tire of it.
What is your most treasure possession?
My iPhone, although that will only be until the new one comes out.
Who would play you in a film of your life?
I think Adrian Chiles would be a good shout....
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
My love of smooth jazz. Lots of people think it sounds like lift music (which it does) but sometimes a bit of saxophone is the perfect antidote to modern life!
Tell us about your ideal weekend.
Perfection would be driving an Aston Martin DB9 down to the south of France with my wife, accompanied by a guidebook of nice restaurants and a reserve of lasagne in a cold box in the boot. Failing that, an afternoon wandering along the beach somewhere like Holy Island with a nice afternoon tea would do just fine.
What was your first ever tweet?
I had no idea how to use it so it was just gibberish. Like '@fgfffofogooohhhhuuuggaa'
What was your first ever Facebook status update?
That I remember - 2007 - 'Let's see what this facebook thing is all about then'....
