Missile thrown from Cheshire motorway bridge

Police issue warning to motorists on the M56.

A Honda Civis was hit by a stone that Cheshire Police say was thrown from the Weaver footbridge which runs over the M56 between Frodsham and Helsby, nobody was injured.

A group of youths were seen on the bridge when the incident happened at 4.45 on Thursday (22nd) evening. Local officer PC Dave Walton says:  "Fortunately, nobody was hurt as a result of this incident, but the consequences could have been devastating.

"I would remind young people of this as they may not realise that what they perceive as mischief could result in serious injury, or death.

"I would also ask parents to make sure that they know where their youngsters are and what they are doing - as well as the potential harm to motorists, motorways are extremely dangerous areas and young people should stay away."

Anyone with any information which could identify those responsible for the incident on the M56 are asked to contact PC Walton on the police non emergency number 101. Alternatively, information can be left anonymously on the Crimestoppers hotline 0800 555 111.
