Ruthin Song Goes Viral

A song to help boost tourism in a North Wales town has already had more than one thousand views on YouTube.

Local singer and entertainer, Geraint Woolford, was challenged by a local county councillor to write the song to promote his home town of Ruthin.

Geraint is shocked with the amount of people who have already listened to his song, and he hopes that it will eventually go viral: "I didn't expect to get that many hits, I've put a few songs on YouTube before and I think the most views I've ever had is six hundred, so I was quite shocked that this one took off so quickly, but I think Facebook has helped that as well."

He added: "It's to promote my town, Ruthin is a beautiful place, it's got alot to offer, and it's got a lot to offer tourists.

"All towns are struggling at the moment, places are quiet, so I'm just trying to regenerate some interest in my town.

"I've always said I'd do anything I can to try and promote Ruthin, I'm actually translating the song at the moment so I can do it in Welsh for the Welsh speakers as well."

Geraint said the line that means most to him is "it's the town that I love." He has also been approached to write songs on other subjects in Ruthin, which he will consider when the time comes.
