Tom James to get freedom of Wrexham

Tom James from Coedpoeth is being given the freedom of the County Borough of Wrexham

The rower won gold in both the Beijing and London games, and now Tom James MBE is being granted the Freedom of the County Borough.

The honour which will be presented during a special council meeting to be held on the 28th of September, holds no special rights or privileges, but is the highest award a council can give to anyone.

Cllr Neil Rogers, Leader of Wrexham Council, said:  "The achievements of all Wrexham's Olympic athletes are tremendous and in Wrexham will have played a huge part in Inspiring a Generation, the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

"We are all very proud of them.  They gave us some marvellous moments during London 2012 and I'm sure many of us will remember these particular games for many years to come.

"It is, however, very fitting that Tom's achievement of two consecutive Gold medals, Beijing in 2008 and now London 2012 receives some special recognition and I am delighted that he will be here to receive the Freedom of the County Borough on the 28th."
