Wrexham Football Academy Launches

The new project will see footballers gaining a degree whilst still playing professionally for Wrexham FC.

With the backing of the PFA and ex-players like Michael Owen and Aaron Ramsey, the Glyndwr University Football Academy will see players who are coming to the end of their contracts still playing for Wrexham, but also working towards a degree for their next career after football.

Former Wrexham player Adam Owen is one of the former-pros backing the scheme, after he gained a degree when he came to the end of his playing career.  He's been telling Heart who this is aimed at:  "Where they're young scholarship players who are coming out of the game or the more senior players who are looking for the transition from the game to the next career path for them.

"It's something which made sense for me to look at the concept and how we could bring the two together, giving a pathway for players who have finished playing back into professional football, but also studying for a high level degree qualification as well."
