Zachary's Story - The Sick Children's Trust

Projects Global's Make Some Noise has supported in your area deliver life changing work and help to give children a brighter future. Projects like The Sick Children’s Trust.

The Trust provides accommodation for families with very sick children in hospitals. In September they open the new ‘Home from Home’ at Freeman Hospital for families on the children’s heart unit.

Zachery's Story

With Make Some Noise’s help they can keep the new house running for families like Zachary’s. At the 20 week scan their baby was diagnosed with ‘hypo plastic left heart syndrome’.

The ‘Home from Home’ allowed Mum, Dad, Grandma and the two brothers to stay together after Zachary was born. They called it the ‘baby hotel’ so it felt like a holiday and adventure.

The home allowed the boys a sense of ‘normality’ where they could share family meals and visit Zachary every day. There was also real comfort for them in meeting other families in similar situations, who could support each other and share their highs and lows.

Zachary’s mum said, “Sadly our son only lived for 29 days, but staying at Crawford House meant that we were able to spend every possible minute with him. More importantly, we were able to share his life together as a family. Without Crawford House we would not have been able to afford accommodation, and would have been isolated at home without support and making the long journey back to hospital every day. We would also not have been able to be at his side when he died, as it was early morning and we were called from Crawford House. The journey from home would have been too long and he would have died without us.”
