80's guilty pleasures
I love weekends generally but this weekend is extra special. In fact I'm so excited about it I can barely believe I am writing this to you.
On Sunday Alton Towers celebrates its 30th Birthday and they have asked me to present the live show. Seeing as they opened way back in 1980 they are planning a huge 80's bash with some of the decades biggest starts. It will be my job to introduce among others Rick Astley, Bananarama and Kim Wilde!
If you are like me and slightly over 30 (!!!) you too will hold a place in your heart for 80's guilty pleasures. For me Kim Wilde is the best. I remember getting her 80's song 'You Came' for my 12th birthday. I remember my mum, who at the time had an 80's perm and regularly wore those jackets with the very big shoulder pads, saying you'll like her!
That one record set me off! Soon I was in Woolworths buying every hit single I could get my hands on (along with quite a few bags of Pick N Mix) Is so good to see the current love for all things 80's. The clothes were brash and neon, the dance routines were thrown together and if it wasn't a Stock, Aitken and Waterman beat you had very little chance of getting your record into the charts.
So this Sunday, in my head at least, I will be wearing a denim jacket, beer bottle tops on my shoes and a big puffa Jacket Yazz style for a couple of hours of pure 80's indulgence. If you are up for a bit of Rick's quiff, Banarama's leggings or some very big back combed Kim Wilde hair I hope you can join me on my main stage from 3 onwards.
This tune should give you a blast from the past: a true Time Tunnel anthem and the first record I was ever bought
