My holiday nightmare...
I write this sat at the airport, waiting for a long overdue flight home from a holiday half way around the world. I'm currently in Thailand after a trip to Malaysia visiting friends.
Usually such a going home experience is tinged with sadness. Not this one. I was supposed to take this flight six nights ago but was struck down by an almighty bout of........swine flu. I thought it had gone away little did I know it is still rife in some countries abroad.
Over dinner last week I developed a tingly throat, you know the kind that could be mistaken for being thirsty. By the next morning I had developed a full on chest cold. Two hours later I had fever. The doctor knew straight away that I had the dreaded S word, he said; "I have 1,000 patients all with swine flu and its getting worse. You are to be put in quarantine for three days and I'm banning you from flying until at least seven days."
I can now say from experience there is one thing worse than being very I'll with flu, and that is being very I'll with it six thousand miles away. For three straight days I was on my own without tv, movies, Internet or the kind of comfort food that always makes you feel better.
We all like holiday nightmare stories so if you went without this year or holiday wasn't the best I hope my tale has cheered you up.
I have to say even though i'm a week late, half a stone lighter and without any kind of tan at all......it is GREAT to be back on air.
