Find out what's going on in the Thames Valley for National Apprenticeship Week.

It's the fifth annual Apprenticeship Week. With events happening around the country we rounded up what's going on in the Thames Valley and North Hampshire.

ATG Training – Wednesday 8 February 2012

AGT Training will be hosting a free Electronics Taster Session on Wednesday 8 February 2012 from 1.30pm to 4pm at The Future Centre, Smeaton Close, Aylesbury, Bucks HP19 8SZ. The session will include; a tour of the facilities and explanation of all their Engineering Apprenticeships; a practical Electronics session; and guidance on how to apply for Engineering Apprenticeships.

Amersham and Wycombe College – Tuesday 7 February 2012

Amersham and Wycombe College will be holding two events during Apprenticeship Week 2012; the first is a “Meet the Team” for our employers. The second event will be a Celebration event held at the Crowne Plaza Marlow. Steve Baker, MP for High Wycombe will be attending.

Aylesbury College – Tuesday 7 February 2012

Aylesbury College is inviting employers to explore the benefits of employing an Apprentice and access information on the Employer responsibilities and process involved. The evening (18.00 - 20.00) will provide networking opportunities over refreshments, informative presentations and individual discussions with the College Work Based Learning Team.

Aylesbury College will be showcasing their Apprenticeship Programme by offering viewing of operational Classrooms, Workshops, Salons and Training Kitchens, short presentations and individual Initial Advice and Guidance sessions with members of the Aylesbury College Work Based Learning Team.

Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) – Tuesday 7 February 2012

This is an opportunity to meet the BCoT dedicated Training Consultants and explore the many Apprenticeships BCoT is able to offer. In addition there will be a selection of employers who offer Apprenticeships and will be available to speak to visitors. Visitors will have an opportunity to find out what is needed to access an Apprenticeship. Buckinghamshire Adult Learning – Monday 6 February 2012 – Wednesday 8 February 2012

Buckinghamshire Adult Learning will be holding a Business Breakfast at Millbrook Combined School, High Wycombe. Employer can find out more information on how Apprenticeship programmes can benefit their business over a continental breakfast. Buckinghamshire Adult Learning can help employer find the right apprentice and support them with flexible training in the workplace.

Buckinghamshire Business First - Wednesday 8 February 2012

Buckinghamshire Business First are hosting a business session on Wednesday 8th February between 17.00 - 19.00 in the Woodlands Suite at Adams Park Conference, High Wycombe at which employers will learn all they need to know to find willing apprentices.  The event is specifically designed for companies who would like to know more about securing young talent for graduate trainees, new Apprenticeships and temporary work placements.  Local learning providers will be on hand to talk to employers about they can support them and their apprentice.  To reserve your place please click here.

Chiltern Training - Monday 6 February 2012

Reading West’s MP Alok Sharma will be joining Chiltern Training to ‘Be an Apprentice for the Day’. He will experience a day in the life of a Chiltern pprentice at Norcot Nursery. Chiltern Training will be holding an Open Day on Tuesday 7th February at Chiltern Training Ltd, Alexander House, Fleming Way, SN1 2NG, from 11:30am – 6pm, followed by one on Wednesday 8th February at Chiltern Training Ltd, 15 Station Road, Reading, RG1 1LG from 11:30am – 6pm. Attendees will go away with an understanding of what Apprenticeships in Childcare or Business and Administration can lead to, what they can expect from the course and how to apply.

East Berkshire College – Tuesday 7 February 2012

East Berkshire College is holding a special breakfast event for businesses on Tuesday 7 February 2012 at 8am-10am at its Langley Campus. The Business Breakfast will provide employers with everything they need to know about apprenticeships, from details on the new range of Apprenticeship courses to accessing the latest funding and recruitment. Employers can discover how apprentices can benefit their business, network with other companies, tour the facilities and hear from guest speakers.

Grow Our Own and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead invite you to attend the Alternative University on Wednesday 8 February 2012 at the Town Hall, Maidenhead from 9.30am. The Alternative University is a chance for Employers, Students and Job Seekers alike to get their questions answered about the options available to them locally and what Apprenticeships are all about. Inglewood Day Nursery and Training College – Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 February 2012

Inglewood Day Nursery and Training College will be inviting a senior director to get “back to the floor” and shadow one of their childcare apprentices for the day. They will get a real insight to the role of an apprentice as well as having the opportunity to look after children aged 3months – 5years. They will get involved in all sorts of activities including getting messy with painting activities, reading stories, meeting parents, playing with the children in the garden providing meals, feeding bottles – the list is endless!

Jobcentre Plus Bracknell – Friday 10 February 2012

‘Get Working with Apprenticeships’ - Jobcentre Plus is holding an event for both local employers and jobseekers at Bracknell Jobcentre on Friday 10th February 2pm to 4pm. At this event employers and jobseekers will be able to meet representatives from the National Apprenticeship Service, Bracknell & Wokingham College and Jobcentre Plus. Come along to find out why Apprenticeships are a great way for employers to recruit new people with great potential, and a fantastic way for jobseekers to start an exciting new career. The National Apprenticeship Service - Thursday 9 February 2012

To start there will be a business breakfast which is followed by the Apprenticeship/Skills Jobs Fair. At 11.00 there will be a support work and business event until 12.00. At certain times throughout the day Students, prospective apprentices and employers will have the chance to have drop in sessions of ‘meet the apprentice- a positive career choice’. There will also be an opportunity for questions and a briefing for higher apprenticeships in engineering. Lastly for parents, carers and prospective apprentices there will be a presentation on ‘understanding apprenticeships’.

O2 Telefonica – Thursday 9 February 2012

O2 Telefonica are hosting an employer engagement event on Thursday 9 February for local businesses (14.30 -16.30) to raise awareness of apprenticeships and to share good practice with other likeminded businesses who have a passion for developing young people.

Reading College – Saturday 4 February 2012

Reading College will have a promotional stand at Asda. This is the first event to be delivered by Reading College during National Apprenticeship week. The stand will give students, parents and employers the opportunity to understand the benefits of the Apprenticeship route and understand the facilities the college has, and the occupational and vocational areas that they cover.

Royal Air Force Apprenticeship Management Team - Monday 6 February 2012

The Royal Air Force is holding their own RAF Apprentice of the Year Awards on 6 February at RAF High Wycombe to celebrate the achievements of ‘Top-Gun’ Apprentices. This year’s awards are particularly special as they are celebrating 90 years of RAF Apprenticeships.

SSE – Monday 6 to Friday 10 February 2012

The objective is to bring in 100 schoolchildren from the Berkshire area into SSE over five days, and to give them a flavour of what a career within the groups various business areas will look like. Sessions have been set up that will be hands on activities with the businesses that are highly populated in the Berkshire area.

SSE will be running 6 sessions over the day, and all the activities will be run by apprentices from their own business areas, as well as this Jennifer Zielinski will be having workshops with the teachers each day to discuss the qualifications that the school children require, to have a career within the energy Sector, Jennifer will also discuss with the teachers the development opportunities that are available within SSE once anyone has joined the company.

Thatcham Research Centre - Wednesday 8 February 2012

To mark National Apprentice Week, Thatcham are opening the doors of their state of the art Apprentice Academy in Berkshire to young people and employers. This is an informal day where, following a short welcome and introduction, guests will be invited to look around the Thatcham Academy facilities at their own leisure. All visitors will get to see Thatcham apprentices in action in this highly technical training environment and will gain an understanding of the challenges facing modern vehicle repairers and the industry opportunities for young people.

The Institute Telecommunications Professionals (ITP) – Wednesday 8 February 2012

Telecom employers are invited to ITP’s Apprentice workshop at the Hilton Bracknell (09:00-13:00), where The ITP will look at ways it can work with employers to develop a new apprenticeship scheme for the Telecoms Industry. The event offers a unique opportunity for employers not only to make their voice heard and to share their views on apprenticeships, but also to network with other telecoms professionals.
