Slough "Shoplifter" With Axe Detained
A suspected shoplifter has been detained under the Mental Health Act after entering a shop armed with an axe.
Police were called to the store in Ipswich Road, Slough, Berkshire, at 9am on Thursday after the man entered the premises carrying the axe.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: ``The man left prior to police arrival. However, he was arrested within close proximity following an area search.
"The 37-year-old was arrested on suspicion of affray and shoplifting.
"Following an assessment in police custody, the man was bailed until August 17 but detained under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital where he remains.''
No-one was injured during the incident, the spokesman added.
